Proctology

Most people are ashamed of their rectal symptoms and tend to hide them. In the case of hemorrhoids, they hope they’ll go away on their own, or they are afraid of the tests that will probably be needed.

Proctology

It’s important to know that most proctologic conditions are abnormalities for which treatments are relatively simple and result in complete recovery. However, some are malignant, cancerous disorders whose treatment cannot be delayed and which generally require complex therapy (surgery and supplementary treatment). Among the most common rectal illnesses are hemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistulas, abscesses, and inflammatory and cancerous disorders.

In what cases should you turn to a proctologist?

  • Itching, pain, or discharge in the anal area
  • Change in bowel movement habits (alternating periods of constipation and diarrhea)
  • Frequent urge to defecate
  • Sensation of a foreign object in the rectum
  • Bloody or mucous stool
  • Lump, bump, or inflammation in the skin in the anal area
  • Long-term or inexplicable abdominal bloating
  • Hemorrhoid problems during pregnancy or after childbirth

Tests available at our clinic:

  • Physical examination
  • Anoscopy: scope of the lower rectum
  • Rectoscopy: scope of the entire rectum
  • 3D Proctological Ultrasound: A short, painless examination that enables MRI-like three-dimensional assessment of the anal region, supporting an accurate diagnosis.
  • Manometry: A brief, non-burdensome examination used to measure pressure conditions within the rectum.
  • Biopsy: histologic tissue sampling

Examination of further sections of the bowel are conducted by a gastroenterologist. Colonoscopy is available at our clinic and is conducted under general anesthesia or intoxication.

Treatments available at our clinic:

  • Modern pharmacological treatments and lifestyle counseling
  • Outpatient and one-day surgical treatment of hemorrhoids – using Ligasure technology to minimize surgical strain, as well as laser procedures that support faster postoperative recovery; rubber band ligation in selected cases
  • Perianal excisions, with the use of Ligasure when necessary
  • Botox treatment for anal fissures, with sphincterotomy if required, and rarely other surgical solutions
  • Removal of perianal viral growths (condyloma) using electrocautery or laser
  • Drainage of perianal abscesses
  • Comprehensive surgical management of fistulas: seton placement, fistulotomy or fistulectomy, and laser fistula surgery (FiLaC)
  • Surgical treatment of pilonidal sinus: aiming for laser eradication of the tract system whenever possible (SiLaC); in cases of abscess formation, priority is given to abscess management
  • Long-lasting postoperative pain relief through injection therapy

We treat benign diseases on an outpatient basis, on-site. Mild hemorrhoids are removed with rubber-ring tying, while for more serious cases we use a special Doppler test to measure the artery supplying the lump, and stitch it up painlessly.
